Malaysia forest parks

Kelam cave




















One of the most distinctive caves in Malaysia is a 370-metre long limestone cave near the small town of Kaki Bukit (literally 'foot hill') called Gua Kelam (Cave of Darkness). Located about 33km north of Kangar, the state capital, Gua Kelam Recreational Park is popular for its enchanting 'cave walk' where you can enter from one end of the cave and come out a different end. Gua Kelam is located within the Perlis State Park which borders with the Nakawan Range of Thailand.

Wang Kelian state park



















Wang Kelian State Park is located along the north-western part of the Thai-Malaysian border. The park consists of the Mata Ayer Forest Reserve and the Wang Mu Forest Reserve comprising a total area of around 5,000 hectares.

Jerai mountain


















Formerly known as "Kedah Peak", this forest-clad Gunung Jerai is a massive limestone outcrop that rises 1200m above sea level. As the highest peak in the state, it adds a touch of variety to the scenic flat plains seen throughout the area. It's located near Sungei Petani, not far from the island of Penang. When you've been on Penang you must have seen the Gunung Jerai (across the sea) on the mainland.

Teluk Bahang recreational park

Penang Hill





















Penang Hill is a hill resort comprising a group of peaks, the major hill system of Penang, Malaysia. It is 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from the city centre of George Town, and stands out prominently from the lowlands as a hilly and forested area. Penang Hill is also known by the Malay name Bukit Bendera, which refers to Flagstaff Hill, the most developed peak.

Tempurung cave

















GUA TEMPURUNG is the main attraction here. The cave meanders under the limestone hill and forms a tunnel of wondrous and endless rock formations that runs from east to west, nearly 2 km in length.

Endau Rompin national park



















In 1892, miner and surveyor H.W.Lake and Lieutenant H.J.Kelsall entered the Endau-Rompin area to conduct scientific research and documentation. They recorded and collected inexhaustible specimens from the area and noted a healthy number of large animals such as elephants, the Sumatran rhinoceros and deer traversing the area.

Arong mountain recreational forest





















Gunung Arong Recreational Forest lies 17km from Mersing and 22km from Endau along the Mersing - Endau road. The tranquil lowland forest with crystal clear river water is ideal for an outing. Lambak mountain recreational forest

Located 5km from the town of Kluang is Gunung Lambak. At 510m above sea level, it is an easy climb for visitors using the trails of footpaths and wooden bridges. Facilities here include car parks, rest sheds, benches, toilets and camping sites. There are waterfalls for that refreshing dip, apart from the diversity of wild flora and fauna to appreciate. Scenes of its waterfalls cascading into streams of rapids and pools are simply enchanting amidst retreats of pleasure and adventure.

Belumut mountain recreational forest

To the northeast of Kluang town lies Gunung Belumut Recreational Forest. Its name is derived from the slippery and slimy stones that abound on the mountain. It takes about four hours along dense jungle tracks to reach the peak at 1,004m above sea level. The park can be reached by saloons through a well-maintained plantation road.

The rise to the top is rather moderate so you can have an easy journey. The waterfalls also cascade at low and moderate heights with the base quite flat, safer for children to bask in the low waters. Families, school children and day trip visitors are usually the groups that visit the park which has camping and resting facilities.

Panti mountain recreational forest
